Jan Gerdes- Piano Verena Stauffer - Text

Pianistic miniatures by contemporary composers are in dialogue with contemporary texts by the Austrian author Verena Stauffer in this programme of the festival.

In addition to several piano miniatures by avant-garde classics such as Stockhausen, Boulez and Feldman, short pieces, fragments and sketches by younger and young composers - not least the Berlin scene - will be heard, impressively demonstrating the stylistic diversity of contemporary composing in the field of tension between bold radicalism, retrospective view, scenic performative concepts, multimedia approaches, improvisation, jazz and much more. This is also about the exciting question of how contemporary composing for the piano expresses itself in the specifically miniature-like, in which no great formal thoughts play a role but the capturing of the moment, the capture of an immediate impression, a perhaps also fleeting event. Is there something specifically miniature about all these artistic expressions and what could it be? Short texts by the Austrian author Verena Stauffer, read by herself, enter into dialogue with the music, counterpoint it and sketch out images, emotions, situations or thoughts and transform these short states into a textual linguistic level.
