Splitter Orchester
Splitter Orchester, founded in 2010, consists of 24 ultra-specialized composer-performers who choose not to work in an institutionalized framework and put existing hierarchies in the music establishment in question. Utilizing a broad variety of extended techniques on traditional, electronic, and especially constructed/tailored instruments, the artistic practice focusses on the production of sound (as opposed to musical material) and on how to diffuse it in space. The longterm ongoing collective work processes of the orchestra utilises a wide range of improvisational and compositional approaches – analysing and contextualising specific methods and practices of composition and improvisation. Splitter Orchester has collaborated with the composers Mathias Spahlinger (D), Øyvind Torvund (NO) and George Lewis (USA). Since 2010, Splitter Orchester has performed in Berlin at Radialsystem V, WABE, Marie-Antoinette and at the Academy of Arts. As part of the MaerzMusik festival 2014, Splitter Orchester performed in the Natural History Museum in Berlin and in the Langenbeck-Virchow-Saal (in cooperation with the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin program). Splitter Orchester has additionally performed at the International Summer Course for New Music in Darmstadt (2012), at the Festival CRAK in the Church of Saint-Merry in Paris (2013), at the festival "Borealis" in Bergen (Norway, 2014), at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in England (2015) and at the Insub.Festival "Orchestres" in Geneva (Switzerland, 2016). In November 2016, the 4-day Splitter Music Festival took place at the Ballhaus Ost in Berlin.
